Project Idea: The Ultimate TV
- Content filtering / censoring based on who is in the room (e.g. a little kid walks in during a violent movie)
- Retrieves and plays any video game / movie from a central database
- TiVo-like functionality (pause, rewind, skip commercials)
- Adjustable size – widescreen to fullscreen
- Interacts with room to change sound, lighting, positioning, etc.
- Remote tells you where it is so you don’t lose it.
- Remote can transform into any remote / video game controller
- Voice recognition
- Frame is customizable look / material and can be changed
- Interacts with and automatically recognizes other devices in the room – cell phones, laptops, video cameras, etc.
Other Ideas:
- Desk – Acts as a computer screen, interacts with anything on it (cameras, etc.), and acts as a tablet
- Sneakers – some sort of continuation of Nike +, where the shoes record speed, distance, etc.
- Some sort of hologram projector that allows 3D drawing and sculpting – somewhat like http://www.frontdesign.se/sketchfurniture/. Maybe through gloves w/ accelerometers or something, the objects could be made tangible.
- Kitchen counter with integrated weight sensors, etc. so it will weigh ingredients as you prepare them, and give you directions for recipes on the fly.
UPDATE: my group has changed, so our ideas have also been altered, and we are no longer doing any of these products.

For the next quarter, I will be posting here all of my class projects and experiments for Dynamic Information Design with Jason Arena. Projects will also be posted to the DID Projects page, and experiments will also be posted to DID Experiments.
Here’s the course description for the class:
A study of the application of information design theory and practice to the developing area of New Media. Cartography and iconography will be viewed in the context interactive design. The delivery of consumer information, using interactive and dynamic media as the vehicle, will be investigated.
